13's win Scottish Cup

Congratulations to the 13s who beat Hutchison Vale on penalties in the Scottish Cup Final after extra time finished 1-1.

The team have done the Club proud in a season that got off to a slow start but their work ethic and the superb work of the team coaches saw them improve week on week until the dramatic finale at Airdrie. In a game that swung from end to end, both teams had chances to win in normal and extra time but it was left to the dreaded taking of penalties to decide a winner. Tynecastle keeper Sean Brennan was to prove the ace in the pack with two saves, the most vital being the last penalty.

The first half of normal time produced no goals and indeed very little goalmouth action as both sets of teams found the large playing area of Airdrie difficult to master. At the start of the second half a really good goal from the Hutchison Vale number 10 had Tynecastle on the back foot but fortunately an early reply from Tynecastle's Kyzer Summers levelled the scoreline. Summers showed great perseverence when he chased down a long ball and toe poked the ball into the net. Both teams produced few chances thereafter and the game went into the penalty decider.

Penalties and the pressure of them are never a good way to decide any final and one has to feel very sorry for the player that missed the last kick. And as for the Airdrie DJ, his wicked sense of humour by playing the song "Under Pressure" at the start of the penalty decider did not help the young players at all!!
